Early 2009 trips
We had a horrific winter for the Pacific Northwest. Snow and frigid temps for a month followed by severe flooding. As a result my husband and I experienced cabin fever which we alleviated by heading out in the RV in Jan and Feb.
First we took a short overnight trip to a local park just 40 minutes away. We tested out the water system. I had put in a new water pump in 08 and it needed to be replaced under warranty. After proving out that the water pump was good to go, we took off in Feb for Cape Disappointment. What a great park! It is over 1800 acres. It is easy ocean access, great for dogs and kids. We went over President's day weekend, also Valentine's weekend and the park was packed, but Monday it cleared out. We stayed until Tuesday and then leisurely drove home. All RV systems worked perfectly. We played computer games and walked on the beach. It was truly a relaxing getaway. The RV is so easy to setup, it takes a whole 5 minutes to plug in to electricity and water. We haven't even been using our windshield cover. It is easier to grab a blanket and hang it under the cabover bed.

The temperature at night was just above freezing but the heat held well inside. I don't often stay in the rig when it is that cold since most of our travels take place later in the spring through summer. All in all a great couple of trips!

Another great things was gas for $2 and a few pennies per gallon. We had used the online reservation system, which I highly recommend. The nightly camp fee including the reservation fee was $28 per night with full hookups (no sewer). I know we are in a recession, but it seems to me that the weak economy has brought out the camper in everyone. There were lots of suv's towing small travel trailers. Also vans packed with family pulling travel trailers. This park has built "yurts" as they call them for the folks who just want to take the car and be one step more secure than a tent. They were quite large, round sturdy structures with a patio area for cooking and eating.
