July 2007 - Oh Canada... | | The next opportunity for use was my trip to Canada. I hauled two horses and the rig did an awesome job. I traveled over 220 miles and used a half a tank of gas, which is about 8 to 8.5mpg. It was hot and muggy and very rainy. I loved the New Maxxair vent covers we installed allowing for fresh moving air inside, while keeping out the wet. While there the Converter circuit tripped. I could not start the hot water heater, nor the furnace. After I did some experiments, logging my results, I thought to check the circuits and found the converter to be the problem. I was suspicious of this when the micro and fridge kept working and they are 110 volt devices. the items I could not get running were 12 volt systems. I could not even get the lights to turn on.
Another side note about the gas mileage and towing power. I got lost in Canada, more precisely I got lost in Langely trying to find the border. It was dark and rainy and I got off hiway 1, came off the offramp and kept going straight. As I went through a business park area then shot down to the flats on narrow country roads I decided I was lost. So I had to find a wide turnout and get going back the way i'd come. So then me and my co-pilot Whitney decided we would go right...again, we wind on down to the flats. By now I am really frustrated. I could not find a wide turnout so I turned in to a driveway, scaring off a deer which was watching us, did a Y turn and headed back.
This time I called my friend Val and begged for directions. I just so happened we took every wrong turn possible, and were now headed to the border. Whew! We didn't make it to the barn until after 10:30. We unloaded and then got home by midnight. |
